Nia and Jameer sat down at the first open roulette table they could find. There was a $50 minimum bet with each spin of the wheel, meaning that this particular table was for the ballers and high rollers. Around the table sat a diverse group of people. To the left of Nia and Jameer were an older white couple. The man was at least 60, while the woman with him couldn’t have been a day older than 25. She was probably a hired escort figured Jameer. The man had chips stacked almost a foot high in front of his face. Jameer could tell that he had money and was a serious gambler.

Next to them was a young Asian girl, possibly a college student. She had a pen and pad and was recording every number where the ball landed. She was trying to play the probabilities and outsmart the roulette wheel. She was making just a minimum bet every time, and didn’t seem to be winning much since she only had a few chips in front of her.

Beside her was a young black man, with a huge platinum chain around his neck and a cup full of liquor. He looked familiar to Jameer, possibly from a rap music video. However, since Jameer wasn’t really into hiphop, he wasn’t sure who the man was. All Jameer knew was that the man wasn’t very good at roulette, because he was losing money with each spin of the wheel.

The last person at the table was an old Indian man. He was sipping a cup of coffee and appeared to be in deep concentration. Out of all the people at the table, he had more chips than anyone. He was placing his bets very strategically, spreading them all across the table. With every spin, he seemed to win a little something. Jameer knew he was the man at the table to watch.

After studying the game for a minute, Jameer pulled $500 out and exchanged it with the dealer for some chips. Nia was anxious to learn exactly how to play, even though she already had the basic concept of the game down. Jameer made his first bet; he placed $100 in chips on the red box on the table.

“Now if the ball lands on any red number, we win $200.” he explained to Nia.

“I think it’s gonna land on black.” whispered Nia.

Jameer looked at Nia, then smiled. Quickly, he moved his bet from red to black.

“All bets down.” said the dealer, as he waved his hand over the table.
